What is in the books for the Voyages of the Vagabond Kickstarter?

A combined total of 500+ pages of world building content & extremely detailed material. The focus is on the roads of the fantasy worlds and the environments that those roads exist in. These supplements will allow you to confidently bring the environment to life in great mystical realism. How are the two books different from one another?

Magnificent Mounts & Where They Go:

  • Will cover the fantastic and more animal-like mounts that the common races of the fantasy realms ride. These races include dwarves, elves, humans, orcs, gnomes, halflings, dragonkin, elementals, celestials, and fiends.
  • Will explore fantastic travel with 10 unique ways to travel the realms fantasy-style like Tarv’s Tavern which is a large inn and magical building that looks extremely tiny from the outside. Yet, the magic of the tavern expended to make the tavern more accommodating.
  • Will be on interesting individuals who travel the roads of fantasy realms. It comes with details about caravans & a caravan generator that you can fill with 150 NPC’s of everyday travelers, merchant travelers, and caravan hirelings.
  • Caravans that travel the realms will be covered in large details. In ancient times, all the way up to before railroads became mainstream, people used carts and wagons to travel.
  • Different tales one might hear while on the road will be covered. While the adventurers can roleplay and make up their own stories, this collection is more based on the NPC’s that travel, and the stories about unbelievable myths and incredible legends will be written for your leisure.

Terrific Terrains & Terrible Travels:

  • Will contain an extremely dangerous collection of different and unique bandit groups that any party could come across in their travels. These bandits will range from extremely dangerous to just wanting your cold. In addition to the 10 different bandit groups, there will be 5 NPC’s fully outlined to flush out each clan as well.
  • Will contain a unique collection of different nomads that are each as unique as the last. These nomads are not necessarily wanting a fight, but they will not shy away from one. In addition to the 10 different nomadic clans, there will be 5 NPC’s fully outlined to flush out each clan as well.
  • Will include content to truly expand your fantasy world with terrains like the arctic, canyons, highlands, forests, and more. Detailed with evocative content such as wilderness terrain features, unique landmarks, sights, sounds, smells, flora, and fauna.
  • 10 new hags will come to life along with will all the details of how they interact with their home. Those 10 unique hags are truly completed with 50 creative hags NPC’s and stories and books hags would possess.
  • Will give you several unique and creative chances to throw a plethora of hags at your party. Half the fun of traveling is the interesting encounters with unique individuals, and we will not disappoint with these NPCs.
  • Different books or tales one might encounter when dealing in areas known to be the home of hags. While the adventurers can roleplay and make up their own stories, this collection is more based on the NPC’s that travel, and the tomes and books hags are known to posses

When will I get your previous products that I purchase as an add on?

The plan is to ship the items from past Kickstarters and writers through complimentary copies through DrivethruRPG or if we have plenty of stock of a certain item then we will wait to ship it with the rest of your items. This is especially true when it comes to items that are physical add-ons such as dice, mugs, and such.

Why two books instead of one book that is common in your previous projects?

We always strive to bring you a ton of content but save you money as well. We found that with the mineralogy manual the print cost per page grows exceptionally with the overall size. Therefore, we decided to go with two books instead of a larger one.

Is the content on the cards the same as what is in the books?

Sure are! You can use the book and the cards in tandem to create your perfect physical pairing of reference and handouts! They go together as well as peas and carrots. In addition, if we must trim or reduce content, then content in the book that is included in decks will be taken out first.

What type of work was done before the launch of the project?

Writing: The majority of the writing will be done before the launch of the project with our team of wonderful writers. The only content that will not be written is stretch goal content unless the writers have time after completing their writing goals.

Artwork: The cost of art is high but in the hope to cut back on the timeline of the project and to help backers see the true vision of the project. We have found that around 25% of the art being done before launch is appropriate for both the pre-launch budget and to aid in timeline completion.

Editing: No serious editing will be done before the launch of the project. The only editing will be for project essential content in the need to cut down on pre-funding costs.

Last updated: December 01, 2020 05:29

What type of work is being done during the funding of the kickstarting?

Writing: The writing that is not complete will continue to be written during the project, however, the focus will be on writing updates, social media posts, and answer questions and concerns about the project.

Artwork: The 25% goal will continue to be worked on during the project but upon funding of the project. We open the flood gates to all of our artists on the full workload and also begin tasking out potential stretch goal art.

Editing: No serious editing will be done during the launch of the project, except for the editing of post updates and things of that nature.

Last updated: December 01, 2020 05:29

What type of work is being done after the project is successfully funded?

Writing: The core writing will be complete upon the arrival of the funds after 15 days from the date the project ends. A focus on our team of writers then turns upon the stretch goal and completes them as soon as possible. Outlines & descriptive text for artists is the initial focus, this is to not slow down any artwork or other work one might need the descriptive text for.

Artwork: The rest of the artwork will be completed as the artists can finish them, we love art and always bring forth a ton of art! At the end of the project, we should have around 25% to 35% of the artwork complete. The artists will focus on art that is needed for playtesting material and finish the rest as quickly as possible.

Editing: As the writing is completed, it is placed in a holding area for our editors to pull form. The day the project ends, editors begin working on the content piece by piece with a focus on content that needs to be playtested over the more lore or storytelling components. This is to allow backers to start looking at content that needs playtesting and possible changes before the completion of the project.

Layout: As the editing is completed, it is placed in a holding area for our graphic designers to pull form. As the editors complete editing, it then moves to layout and graphic designers. Content that is meant for playtesting is only polished to about 75% of the final version, this is to not put so much work into the content until after playtesting is complete. Then once that is complete, the final edits, layout, and final product are brought forth.

Playtesting: The more rule-heavy, content full of mechanics, or testing material will be playtested. This content will be finished earliest and brought forth to the backers for them to plunge through and hopefully give us feedback to bring forth a more complete project.

Proof Reading: The final step before printing occurs in which we hire an external company or individual to do a final proofread over the book. This is the final chance to make major edits and updates before print, and we want to ensure that the books are fantastic.

Last updated: December 01, 2020 05:26

Do I have to wait for the physical book to ship to see the content?

We have a 47-page PDF for preview samples of the pre-edited content already available for backers and potential backers. They are not final, but they should give you some idea of what kind of product you’re getting. And we will release more previews over the course of the Kickstarter campaign. This content had not gone through professional editing but like all our previous projects, rigorous proofreading and editing will be complete.

Last updated: December 01, 2020 05:29

What about playtesting the rules before they are shipped?

Every single backer that is supporting the book physical or digital will be reviewing a PDF. We always allow for 2 to 4 weeks of proofreading and playtesting before sending it to our own proofreaders and playtesters.

Last updated: December 01, 2020 05:26

How will I receive my playtesting documents?

The documents will all be sent digitally in PDF format. They will be distributed through the backer-exclusive updates via a goodly drive link.

Last updated: December 01, 2020 05:26

How much do you anticipate the provided snippets and the upcoming playtest content changing in the final published version?

During the Kickstarter, we have content and previews that we will be adding to updates. After the funding period, we will send out as much as is needed to produce a product people will engage with, without compromising the core vision.

Last updated: December 01, 2020 05:26

Will the books of Voyages of the Vagabond Kickstarter be translated in languages other than English?

No, that is beyond the scope of our production capacity right now. Future books may be localized, but we do not want to over-promise, and we must limit how much we bite off.

Last updated: December 01, 2020 05:26

When will I be charged?

When the Voyages of the Vagabond is successfully funded, and the funding period ends Kickstarter will charge your card on file. The Kickstarter is set to end January 1, 2021, to help bring in the new year and give us all a reason to celebrate.

Last updated: December 01, 2020 05:29

Kickstarter did not ask me for my address after I pledged. Did I do something wrong?

Nope! Kickstarter does not gather information until after the campaign has ended and only if a survey from Kickstarter is sent out. Once the cards are charged make sure to come back to fill that info out on our pledge manager thorough backer kit.

Last updated: December 01, 2020 05:26

Our current estimate is from May to June 2021.

Last updated: December 01, 2020 05:26

Will the final version of the PDF be delivered earlier than the physical books?

Yes, as soon as the PDF is ready to print, people who backed will be able to get their PDF.

Last updated: December 01, 2020 05:26

Are the Books and other products of the Voyages of the vagabond Kickstarter compatible with other d20 systems, previous editions, or content from other games?

Mostly, this is something we always strive for and the only content that will be mechanically tied to an edition are things like stat blocks, references to abilities and skills, and areas where mechanics must be involved. We will go so far as to create complex custom system-agnostic mechanics to keep the content as neutral as possible. There is around 70 to 75 percent of world-building and content that is system agnostic in both books. When we must choose a rule system, we go with the 5th edition.

Last updated: December 01, 2020 05:26

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
